Atlanta police released surveillance video Thursday in the murder of boxing champion Vernon Forrest. Police said the video showed a car the shooting suspects arrived in before Forrest was shot and killed. Police also released a picture of a championship boxing ring similar to the one Forrest was wearing. Investigators said the ring was stolen off his finger. Police said Forrest was putting air in his car tires at a gas station when a man asked for money. When he pulled his wallet out, the man snatched it and started running, and Forrest took off after him. Investigators said Forrest exchanged gunfire with robbery suspects before being shot to death. Lieutenant Keith Meadows said they had no new leads on suspects. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Crimestoppers Tipline at 404-577-TIPS. Forrest will be laid to rest Monday, August 3 and New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia. A visitation is scheduled for 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with the funeral following.
