History of Photography Beaumont Newhall is! For most of the 20th Century saw a central figure in the movement, recognized photography as an art form. You could also say that he created the “History of Photography” as a field, a respected independent study. As the founder and father of the history of photography, photographer, curator, art historian, writer, scholar, teacher and administrator, it seems as if there were more than a Beaumont Newhall. Starting in 1938 the Museum of Modern Art, created the first retrospective of the art 100 years of photography. This documentary presents some of the experiences Beaumont, a lifelong friend, mentor and confidant, many photographers today in the annals of history.
